Bethany Perry

What does it take to RISE UP to your fullest potential?

Bread needs yeast. For humans? It’s the inner work.

Back in 2011, most people considered me successful based on what they could see. I had a profitable coaching studio; was a respected leader and award winning expert in multiple industries;  10 team members and over 100 clients.

Traveling to multiple countries per year with my soulmate Jake probably made my social media look glamorous, but pictures didn’t show the pressure I was feeling to keep up with everything.

As the reality of starting a family got closer, decisions being made behind the scenes hit a critical point in my mind.

You see, motherhood was always important to me. So important I actually bought up having kids the night my husband and I met! It was a bit awkward honestly, I gave him until date three to let me know if he was down for eventually being a dad haha! I’m happy to share that in our case, it ended up being a deal-MAKER rather than a deal breaker.

We were both working long hours when not traveling, and 5 years later, the now Mr. Perry and I were still googly eyed for each other during the few hours a week we actually got to spend together.

Plus, we knew we were working towards the same goal – creating a stay-at-home parenting experience without sacrificing our lifestyle.

What people didn’t see was how I groaned as the alarm clock went off at 4:30am, dragging my legs over the edge of the bed while it was still too dark to see an ocean view.

Even if the sun had been up, I would’ve missed it because my head was hanging due to a heavy heart. The extensive degrees and certifications I had, the awards I had won, they didn’t matter much in those early morning moments.

Embarrassed to admit this dissatisfaction to myself, I went through my decades old morning routine with my eyes half closed.

I had spent 15 years coaching elite athletes, creating quarter-million-dollar programs for other people’s businesses, and providing concierge coaching to millionaire CEO’s, but I still remember when the routine as a solo-preneur felt good enough, peaceful almost …

  • Pride at turning on lights in my very own business space,
  • Contentment as music and clients started to fill the space,
  • A sense of purpose as the coaches I was mentoring arrived, often high-fiving me as they walked past my desk.

And yet now there was a nagging boredom underneath it all.

I could do all of it in my sleep, and each time that alarm clock went off I definitely would’ve preferred to have sleep as an option!

Can you get results NOT being in alignment?

Absolutely

I had gotten a shizz ton of them. But it leads to maxing out at less than our full potential. And who wants that?

I had both created and hit my own glass ceiling.

I was working hard to get to that “next level” so I could ‘finally’ relax. I wanted to enjoy pregnancy & motherhood without sacrificing our lifestyle (eh-hem, income).

And THAT day came much sooner than expected… the day the dipstick showed YES+.

There was an overwhelming sense of excitement, quickly followed by a wave of panic… which led to hugging the toilet some more.

It brought up tough questions and big decisions for Mr. Perry and I.

  • What if I raised my rates to match the level of transformation my clients were getting? (I have the 1-year later… heck the 2, 5, even 10-year later thank you letters to prove it!)
  • What if I gave up my local practice and started coaching in the global-virtual space?!?!
  • What if I actually used ALL of my certifications helped people the way I knew I could instead of playing it safe just because I liked who I was working with now?

Here’s what we agreed on…

We both desired more lifestyle freedom.

It was clearly my LIFE’s purpose to make more of an impact through service with my coaching skills.

And that me working 70+ hour weeks trying to keep juggling everything was NOT working!

It was also obvious to both of us I couldn’t keep going how I had been.

Even more important to consider was…

“How could I create the space & freedom to be the kind of mom I wanted to be AND maintain this level of career intensity?

Jack Canfield Bethany Perry

During many heartfelt conversations on our back deck, it became obvious to Mr. and I that while I loved my community of clients and coaches, the way I had been doing business for so many years was starting to leave me unfulfilled and stale, and I was starting to experience symptoms of burnout.

  • A few pesky pounds that I couldn’t shake off. And then a few more… 52 to be exact.
  • Energy slumps that even a whole pot of coffee couldn’t overcome.
  • Friendships fading out of my life and self care disappearing out of my schedule due to lack of attention and nurture.

None of this matched the place we imagined starting our family from!

With words of my mentor Jack Canfield ringing in my head,

I decided to “give up the good to make room for the great.”

For me, that meant selling my in person studio and providing my services virtually.

It required creating fierce boundaries around my work hours to protect my self-care.

I decided to stop doing what was working for everyone else and follow what all my training said would work for ME.

We also moved again, our 3rd time in less than 18 months, to a bigger home with room for a baby.

At my next Dr’s appointment, I was proud to share all of the lifestyle changes we had made, but my smile faded as I noticed his expression of concern while performing the ultrasound.

I clutched my belly and my heart sank when he sent me downstairs for extra bloodwork. Anxiously waiting for the results, I berated myself for taking so long to make the changes I had known in my gut were needed months before I saw that positive test 4 ago.

Getting the news that we had lost the baby felt similar to how I imagine a brick in the face would feel. Amidst my grief and sorrow, I didn’t have it in me to “power through” like I had been doing in life and business for so long. There was no force or “hustle” that had worked to overcome so many challenges before that would help or able to heal this pain.

I had to practice what I teach to get through that time. My clients know the phrase well… sometimes we have to slow down to speed up.

And slow down I did, during which I re-discovered the power of my own “medicine.”

Mindset. Communication. Relationship Dynamics. Psychology. Neuroscience. Energetics. Quantum Physics. Business basics & empathy-driven marketing.

I embodied what I had known in my head for so long on a deeper level, and when fear and self-worth issues would rear their ugly heads, I found I was more grounded than ever, confident to keep pursuing my dreams despite continued fertility set backs.

I studied. And studied again. Each time I did, I was implementing more of my life’s work into how I was showing up (or not showing up, depending on the day) in new ways.

I was honoring myself in ways that while not new, felt different because of my new perspective.

Since I was “trying” less than ever before, I was surprised to notice an increase in client inquiries.

Even more exciting was that these requests came from soulmate clients… creatives and artists who just like me wanted to have more impact and income. Philanthropic influencers who loved their business but were missing their life…Like me, all of them were no longer willing to plug into the “push hard, and then push harder” approach.

Each of them was ready to uncover their unique path forward, to honor their individual design, and actually increase what they could accomplish without succumbing to the overly glamorized “hustle harder” approach.

They inspired me. And helping them through the same personal growth processes that were pivital to my expansion allowed them to start making decisions and creating opportunities in a way that improved all parts of their life and career!

Witnessing their results in relationships, health, wealth, and the oh-so-often overlooked area of pure happiness re-kindled my flames of purpose.

I had worried my fiery fight to change the world might have been extinguished for good by so many tears during my grieving.

Today, I feel blessed to have both the family and business of my dreams. My wish for you is to realize you don’t have to wait for a crisis or a tragedy to push you into the realization that it doesn’t have to be so hard!

SOMETIMES ALIGNMENT IS UNCOMFORTABLE!

For me, my fertility losses were a wake up call. Not because I was doing something wrong to cause them, but because it allowed me to realize where things were off in my life, even if they seemed unrelated.

Since committing to integrating all parts of me and allowing myself to be fully self-expressed in every area of life, I have left no stone unturned about how to be my best as well as to help others do the same.

Shifting into this new way of being didn’t always feel like rainbows and butterflies. But I was strong enough to have hustled as hard as did, get to where I’d gotten to, and I think that’s part of why I was strong enough to handle the transformation so quickly. And if you’re still reading, you are too!

I haven’t just been integrating these practices into my life, I’ve been integrating them into my my work with clients. My business training and human design certifications; my sports medicine degree and psychology background; high performance and human needs.

Like me, I know you can accomplish a lot and succeed even if you’re not fully in alignment, but the universe loves you so much I truly believe it will throw you a curve ball of your own if needed to get your attention or move you into action that you already hear whispers of.

I’ve shared mine with you and it is my mission to make sure you don’t have to wait for it to get really hard like I did before you make adjustments.

While I can’t promise to prevent every heartbreaking moment or pitfall, I can confidently offer you the chance to side-step most of them, plus handle any curve balls life does throw at you with an attitude of grace under fire… being perfect isn’t the goal. Living full out is!
